Kenyatta University releases statement following bus crash

Kenyatta University has officially released statement to the press concerning a grisly accident involving its bus which was ferrying students to Mombasa for academic trip.

In the letter dated March 19, 2024, the institution said the bus ferrying students to Mombasa for academic trip was involved in an accident with a tractor trailer at Maungu, Taita Taveta County last night.

The report so far, sadly indicates that there are student fatalities. The University has also clarifies that it has dispatched a team consisting of two doctors, medical personnel, security officers as well as students’ and staff wellness officers coming from its Main and Mombasa campuses to assess the situation, assist survivors and provide accurate report.

The university says that some of the injured students are in the process of assessment for possible evacuation to Nairobi depending on their status.

The specific numbers and names of fatalities have not yet been confirmed by the University making it impossible to share any information at the moment. The university will provide  a more comprehensive report later in the day.

The institution has set up a help desk at the Business Students Services Centre BSSC Room 151 and Mobile No. 0202310709 or 0723352 483 to respond to queries as they offer support and assistant to the affected families during this challenging time.

The University has also conveyed its deepest heartfelt condolences to the families and friends who have lost loved ones in the accident.
