Thomas More University of Applied Sciences in Belgium has sent its first batch of students to the University of Nairobi (UoN), Kenya Institute of Special Education (KISE) and CentrumBerliner Medical Centre for internships.
KISE Director Dr. Norman Kiogora said that the students will exchange and learn new skills from experts at the Assessment and Research Center and also participate in outreach programmes.
He was speaking at KISE when he welcomed the students in the country accompanied by CentrumBerliner Director Dr. Roisa Kerry and Dr. Ezekiel Mecha of UoN.
The students, who arrived in the country early this week from Belgium, will be in the country for two to six months for the internship programme, which was conceived through a partnership between the three institutions.
The students will focus on Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology as they exchange knowledge and skills, and experience different Kenyan cultures and perspectives.
More students are expected to arrive later.
Dr. Roisa said that the students will also receive practical lessons from the hospital, based in Kiserian, Kajiado County, besides learning from the local community.
Dr, Mecha stated that UoN is open to more partnerships with institutions both locally and internationally.
The institutions have put more emphasis on partnerships as they collaborate with local and international institutions to share and learn modern skills that will make them offer better services.
