Kenya holds talks on TVET education with Australia

Principals of all national Polytechnics in Kenya have held a meeting on partnership with Australian government for partnership to improve learning which will see the institutions compete globally.

The Principals met at the Kabete National Polytechnic this week in a meeting presided over by Principal Secretary, State Department for Technical, Vocational Education and Training Dr Esther Muoria and also The Kenya High Commissioner to Australia, Ambassador Dr Wilson Kogo.

The PS said the team discussed about up skilling of TVET trainers, curriculum exchange between Kenya and Australia, and facilitating labour mobility for TVET graduates to Australia.

“Kenya aims to build networks between the Kenyan and Australian institutions that will foster long-term collaborative relationships with an emphasis on a Competency-Based Curriculum that meets international standards while catering to the local job market demands,” the PS said.

She noted that the faculty exchange programmes will also ease sharing of knowledge and best teaching practices and enhance cross-cultural understanding, aligning with the industry goals and creating a sustainable and long-term partnership that will directly lead to employment opportunities abroad and locally.

The PS also noted that TVET Principals plays critical ensuring that youth are equipped with the skills required to thrive in a competitive global market.

The meeting was also attended by Education Attaché at the High Commission, Florah Mulatya and a Senior Officer at TAFE (Technical and Further Education), Zac Gikandi, who provided valuable insights about the Australian TVET system.
