Kenya has benefited immensely from PASET membership, says Machogu

The Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu has said that Kenya has immensely gained from her membership to Partnership for Kkills in Applied Sciences, Engineering and Technology (PASET).

The CS who was speaking today April 23, during the opening of the 6th PASET forum at safari Park.

Hotel, disclosed that so far 25 Kenyans have fully been sponsored for PhD training.

Also, the University of Nairobi and Kenyatta University have been identified as African Host Universities in Physics and Material Science and Engineering respectively with 41 PhD scholars.

And the International Centre of Insect physiology and Ecology (ICIPE) based in Kenya have been given the coordinating role for the Regional scholarship and Innovation Fund (RSIF).

CS for Education Ezekiel Machogu welcomes the Chairperson of the Governing Council of PASET and Minister of State for Education in Rwanda Claudette Irere at the Safari Park in Nairobi today.

The 6th PASET forum has gathered 11 partnership member states of Senegal, Ethiopia, Rwanda, Kenya, Benin, Cote d’Ivore, Burkina Faso, Ghana, Mozambique, Nigeria and Tanzania and 500 delegates from different countries worldwide.

Machogu said the conference themed ‘Leveraging TVET in Knowledge and skills Ecosystem for Africa’s Industrialization’ provides an opportunity for the partner States to reflect on the gains made from 2013 when PASET was first established while at the same time crafting strategies to address present and future challenges.

“The forum is a perfect example of African countries taking the lead and providing African solutions to address unique African Challenges, through collaboration,” Machogu said.

The CS further said that they are optimistic that the PASET programmes in Universities and TVETs in Africa will continue to provide a platform for millions of African youths to advance their knowledge and skills in scientific research and innovation, and be part of future success stories of Africa’s renaissance.

The forum will end on April 25.

PASET is a sub-Saharan Africa programme with an objective of strengthening Science, Technology and Tngineering capabilities for socio-economic transformation of the member countries through post-doctoral trainings and skilling the youth in the technical vocational education and training sector .
