KeMU organises free medical camp for Meru residents

More than 300 people from Meru County and its environs have benefited from a free medical camp thanks to Kenya Methodist University (KeMU) Faculty of Health Sciences in partnership with the Meru County Government and other stakeholders.

According to Doctor Eliaps Some, the Deputy Vice Chancellor KeMU, the free medical camp is a three-day event which aimed at assisting vulnerable people who cannot afford to seek health services in private and even public health facilities due to the high cost of the services.

Doctor Some said as a university they have been holding free medical camps every year as a way of giving back to society.

He said the university has partnered with the doctors from Meru Level 5 hospital and other medical staff from various private health services and called upon members of the public to take advantage of the camp to be examined.

Doctor Some said that some of the health examinations the doctors are doing is checking blood sugar, blood pressure, various cancer screening among other various health examinations adding that those patients who require referrals are being referred to various hospitals among them Meru level 5 hospital.

Meru County Government Chief Officer Health Department Joseph Wahome said that as a county government they have partnered with KeMU so that residents can access free medical services.

Wahome said they will continue partnering with KeMU and other partners to ensure that they can take free medical camps at grassroot to benefit patients who are unable to access medical services in various health facilities.

Beneficiaries appreciated the move by the KeMU and other partners in conducting the camp and appealed for the institution to continue conducting such free medical camps regularly.
