KCSE running smoothly in Narok despite heavy downpours

Education officers in Narok County wait for clearance. The KCSE examinations are going on smoothly in the county despite heavy rains.

The KCSE examinations are going on smoothly in Narok County despite the heavy rains pounding the area.

However, three girls from St Antony’s Secondary School (Narok East), Namnyak Girls in Narok West and Chepkoiyet Secondary in Trans Mara East are sitting their exams in hospital after giving birth.

County Director of Education Apolo Apuko reiterated that the girls are in good health and are sitting their exams under tight supervision, just like their colleagues in school.

He called on the members of the public to accord the candidates the support they need.

“Our role as education stakeholders is to ensure the exam is done in a conducive environment and the children sit the right exam at the right time. We ask all members of the public to support us by keeping off school premises,” he requested.

Apuko confirmed that there are about 17,300 candidates this year; 16,500 in public and 855 in private schools. There are also more boys than girls – 9,500 and 7,800 respectively – in 196 centres.

Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Dr David Njengere, who oversaw the opening of the exam container at the County Commissioner’s office, reaffirmed their commitment to ensure the credibility of the exams.

“As soon as the vehicle carrying the examination enters the school compound, the gate should remain open until the vehicle returns the papers to the examination container,” said Njengere.
