More candidates attained an E grade in last year’s KCSE results as compared to the previous year.
This year the number of students who recorded Grade E were 48,333, a significant increase from the previous year which had 28, 174 students scoring grade A.
Speaking while releasing the exam results at Mitihani House today Education CS Julius Ogamba said that 962,512 candidates sat for the KCSE 2024, 480,310 male and 482,202 female, marking the first time female candidates outnumbered males.
1,693 had As, 7,743 (A-) B+ (19,150) B (43,120), B- (75,347) C+ (99,338), C (111,717), C- (118,781) D+ (128,885), D (153,334), D- (151,487) and 48,333 attained grade E.
The number of students who attained grade D+ was 605774 representing 62.7 per cent as compared to 526222 translating to 58.2 per cent in 2023.

The CS said the improved performance of the candidates is due to change of marking criteria.
In 2023, while releasing the results, the then CS for Education Ezekiel Machogu said that the number of students registering grade was worrying stressing the need for comprehensive educational reforms and support mechanism to address this issue.
KCSE will close its door in 2027 when the last cohort will sit for exams.
