The Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) will make special arrangements for 8 Junior Starlets national team members to sit for their KCSE exams after the Under-17 World Cup tournament which is clashing with the national exam schedule.

KNEC Chief Executive Officer (CEO), David Njengere, while announcing the news, emphasized the importance of fairness and inclusivity for the learners, ensuring they are not disadvantaged due to their unique opportunity to represent Kenya for the first time in the tournament.

The players; Marion Serenge of Arch Bishop Njenga, Rebecca Odato (Dagoretti Mixed), Lorine Ilavenga (Nyakach Secondary), Velma Awuor (Nyakach Secondary), Claire Paul Meris (Kobala Secondary), Velma Auma (Wiyeta Girls), Christine Adhiambo (Nyakach Secondary), and Quinter Adhiambo (St Alfred Alara Mixed), are expected to play a huge part in the up-coming Women’s World Cup fixtures for Kenya in their Group C games scheduled for between October 18 and 24. They will then play their quarter final matches between October 26 and 28.

Quarter finals winners will progress to the final stages up to the final day of the tournament on November 3, the date when the main papers will be going on.

Njengere revealed that the decision to offer special exams was a collaborative effort between the Ministry of Sports and the Ministry of Education in bid to ensure that the player-candidates get the opportunity to pursue their dreams in football without compromising their education.

Junior Starlets head coach, Mildred Cheche, expressed gratitude for the decision, highlighting that the candidates now have the chance to focus on the World Cup without worrying about missing their exams.

Some players had already deferred their exams to the following year and faced challenges due to potential class time loss during the team’s camp, prompting a need for solutions to avoid such situations in the future.

The Junior Starlets team made history by qualifying for the World Cup, marking a significant achievement for Kenyan football.

The team is preparing for the World Cup, undergoing training in Marbella, Spain, before heading to the Dominican Republic, where they will play matches against formidable opponents in Group C, including Mexico, Korea DPR, and England.
