Grief has engulfed Sironga Girls National School in Nyamira County after a Form Four girl allegedly committed suicide at dawn by jumping off the third floor of a dorm.
“We heard the shattering sound on the ground only to discover it was one of our own who had jumped from the third floor,” said one student.
She was rushed to Nyamira Teaching and Referral Hospital for treatment where she breathed her last before getting medical attention.

When education News tried to get in touch with the Chief Principal Jane Nyanumba, her phone went unanswered.
Nyamira County KNUT Executive Secretary Kennedy Migosi said he had not heard about the sad incident but promised to comment later after getting relevant information from the authorities concerned.
“I cannot say anything about this ugly and heart-cuddling information until I liaise with the police to know if the next of kin of the victim have been alerted,” he said.
A note suspected to have been scribbled by the deceased, who was awaiting her KCSE exams in barely a month, partially read “I will achieve my dream between 5 am and 6 am on 28th September 2024.”
The bizarre death comes barely a week after the head teacher of Mokwerero Primary School Barnabas Nyakundi allegedly strangled himself to death at his home in Manga Sub-county, Nyamira.
