KCSE 2024: Good news as schools in Machakos record impressive mean scores

CS for Education Julius Ogamba, PS for Basic Education Dr Belio Kipsang' and her counterpart for Higher Education Beatrice Inyangala during the release of 2024 KCSE results on January 9.

Secondary schools in Matungulu and Kangundo sub counties have recorded remarkable improvements in their KCSE mean scores, according to provisional results.

Leading the pack in Matungulu Sub-county was Caring Hearts Girls’ High School, which celebrated an impressive mean score of 8.3, cementing its position as a top performer in the region.

Matungulu Girls High followed closely with a mean score of 7.6, with over 200 students qualifying for university. Fr. Heeran Girls recorded a notable positive deviation of +1.019, achieving a mean score of 6.1192 and sending 68 students to university.

Tala High secured a mean of 6.3, with more than 100 students heading to university, while Kinyui Girls recorded a mean score of 5.6, with 50 students qualifying for university. Tala Satellite High also showed progress with a positive deviation of +0.2, enabling 15 students to gain university entry.

Other notable mentions from Matungulu include Katwanyaa High, Sengani Girls, Tala Girls High, and Kalandini Secondary, all of which posted commendable results.

In Kangundo Sub-county, Caring Hearts Boys High, sitting for the KCSE for the first time, achieved an outstanding mean score of 8.4. Misyani Girls High made a strong comeback with a mean score of 8.02, securing university spots for 220 students.

Kangundo High also recorded significant success with a mean score of 6.19, sending 60 students to university.

Other schools in Kangundo that posted good results include Kitwii High and Kawauni Secondary.

William Sila, the chair of the board of one of the leading schools, attributed the success to the dedication of teachers, parents, and other stakeholders. “This achievement reflects a collective commitment, and we hope to maintain this upward trend,” he remarked.

With the region’s schools setting a high bar, stakeholders are optimistic about sustaining these positive trends in the coming years.
