Mlolongo Assistant County Commissioner (ACC) Amos Punden has banned kangaroo courts, which have been rampant, especially in Tufffoam and Sabaki, Mavoko Sub-County, Machakos County.

He took this step to combat rising cases of defilement, early pregnancies, and gender-based violence.

Speaking during a baraza, Punden warned that anyone holding such illegal sittings would face legal consequences.

He also cautioned men preying on schoolgirls, stating that the law would soon catch up with them.

“Kangaroo courts are banned effective today. Anyone holding such sittings to resolve these cases will be arrested,” he stated.

Furthermore, he warned individuals impersonating chiefs and unlawfully taking the law into their own hands.

“There are people here pretending to be administrators, deciding cases as police officers. Let them be warned—we will catch up with them soon,” he added.

Punden emphasized that all cases should be reported to the police to ensure justice is served through the proper legal channels

The government official noted that early pregnancies and child marriages remain a challenge in the area, with some parents complicit in these practices.

“You find a 15-year-old girl impregnated and taken to live with an older man in Kitengela,” he observed.

He urged parents to take their responsibilities seriously and stop enabling the exploitation of their children.

“After defilement, a child is never the same again. Don’t cause your child further trauma by denying her justice or marrying her off,” he concluded.
