Parents, students, and graduates came in large numbers to the playing field at Kamwenja Teachers College for a joyful 100-year anniversary celebration.
The event was graced by distinguished guests, including Prof Stephen Kiama, the 8th Vice Chancellor of the University of Nairobi, and Archbishop Anthony Muheria of the Nyeri Archdiocese, who serves as the college’s sponsor.
The festivities began with the unveiling of a plaque for the newly constructed administration block, a symbol of the college’s commitment to growth and modernization. This was followed by a procession led by the police band, which marched the attendees to the playfield.
Over the decades, Kamwenja has evolved to meet the changing needs of Kenya’s education system. It has trained countless teachers at various certificate levels, from P1 to P4, offering both pre-service and in-service programmes.

In his speech, Prof Kiama emphasized the important role teachers play in shaping society, using his personal experiences to illustrate how teaching can inspire a lifelong appreciation for God’s creation.
“Teachers, facilitate the growth of godliness in children, helping them understand the laws of nature and the universe,” he said.
