Kakamega Woman Representative Elsie Muhanda has urged the National Treasury, through the Ministry of Education (MoE), to implement timely strategies for the disbursement of capitation funds to schools across the country.
This call comes in response to challenges faced by school Principals when funds are delayed, which can create significant disadvantages for both educators and students.
She spoke on January 1 at the Youth Empowerment Centre in Mudiri Estate where she donated KSh8 million to support the “Teen Mothers of Hope” programme.
The programme offers scholarships to teen mothers who have decided to continue with education and as well supporting boda boda businesses.
Emphasizing the importance of timely funding, she said, “It would be beneficial if the MoE could take proactive steps to disburse the necessary funds even before students return to school.”
“This would provide Principals with ample time to address the requirements of their students effectively.”
Additionally, the legislator announced the mobilization of field officers from her office to continue the registration for students who sat for the KCSE but have not yet enrolled in colleges.

This initiative aims to guide and support these students in pursuing technical college education, which is increasingly vital for their future employment prospects in a rapidly evolving job market.
By advocating for timely funding and supporting post-secondary pathways, Muhanda is taking significant steps towards enhancing educational outcomes and empowering the youths in her county.
