Kakamega appoints new minister to head education docket

Kakamega county has appointed a new County Executive Committee Member (CECM) for Education Science and Technology after a recent cabinet reshuffle by Governor Fernandes Barasa.

Dr. Mariam Were is the new education boss, taking the place of Dr. Boniface Okoth who has been transferred to head the Public Service and Administration department.

Prior to the new assignment, Dr. Were was the substantive Chief Officer for Water and Natural Resources.

Barasa said that he made the changes to ensure support for the county’s development agenda for the next two years.

“There are a lot of expectations from people on what we are supposed to achieve and we can only but demand the very best from you, we need to exceed expectations from the people,” Barasa said.

Ayub Savula, who is currently the Deputy Governor (DG) is now the acting CECM for Trade and Industrialization.
