Kajiado residents want Govt to provide transport to students in remote areas

Kajiado West Constituency residents are now calling on the National Government to provide transport to the schools in the region so that students can smoothly attend classes.

The residents who attended Consumer Grassroots Association (CGA) awareness meeting in Kisamis March 28 noted that the students from the region are disadvantaged that is why they perform poorly in exams.

They risky their lives walking at night to access education in a place that is witnessing increase in human-wildlife conflicts.

They take more than three three hours to walk from their homes to school thus the students have to wake up early enough to get to school.

Pastor Paul Olekurenta from Keekonyokie Ward said the Government should provide school buses to take students to school.

He pointed out that there should also be construction of more schools to accommodate increasing population in the region.

The resident said some of the schools in the region were constructed in the 70s.

“We also want the Government to start projects, that can benefit the community in raising school fees for their children, since we are still recovering from the drought that killed our livestock,” he said.

The CGA workshop was about consumer rights and awareness sustainable food systems transformation (food safety and agro-ecology).

During the training, the Keekonyokie residents also raised pertinent complaints affecting them. These complaints included, water scarcity, food shortage, human wildlife conflicts.

Denis Simba Project Communications Officer CGA said they engage the duty bearers and right stakeholders on pressing complaints raised by the residents with the intention of bringing solution to residents.

They were taken through their rights as citizens to access services from the governments both the county government and National Government.
