The Kajiado County Assembly has launched investigations over invasion of county assembly by some members of the public who forcefully gained access to the restricted precincts of the legislative arm of the County Government on Tuesday, 31st October 2023.
Reportedly, the group of young men, and women, armed with crude weapons, jumped over the fence, invaded the precincts of the County Assembly, and threatened a petitioner Tipape Naini who was presenting a petition for impeachment of Governor Joseph ole Lenku.
The assembly through speaker Justus Ngussur in a statement indicating that some of the invaders could be County Executive who were determined to attack the petitioner while conducting his personal rights as a lawful Kenyan.
“They gathered at the main gate, chanting, and threatening to attack a petitioner, they made good their threat, because for close to two hours, more than 30 individuals engaged the Assembly’s security team in running battles within the premises, bringing the Assembly to a standstill,” part of the statement read.
The speaker stated that by breaking into the chambers, the intruders took the law into their own hands and threatened the lives of County Assembly officials and workers, as well as the general peaceful environment.
The assembly will assured that the perpetrators will face the full force of the law to ensure such an incident will never happen again in the future.
