Tensions ran high at Kabuyefwe Boys High School Friday morning after a violent confrontation between Sudanese and Kenyan students which led 20 of them being suspended after the school administration took disciplinary action over the matter.
School principal Protus Wanjala confirmed the incident, stating that the fight erupted when a dormitory captain attempted to wake up a Sudanese student for mandatory morning studies.
The student resisted and engaged the captain in a physical altercation, triggering a larger brawl as other students joined in, taking sides along ethnic lines.
“The situation escalated quickly, leading to a fight between Sudanese and Kenyan students. We had to step in immediately to restore order,” Wanjala told Education News.
In response, the school administration sent home 20 students identified as key instigators.
Meanwhile, education officials are working with the school to prevent further tensions and promote peaceful coexistence among students from different backgrounds.
The incident has sparked fresh concerns over discipline and cultural integration in schools, with calls for proactive measures to address underlying issues before they escalate into violence. Investigations are ongoing as the school seeks to maintain order and academic focus.
