Juja Member of Parliament George Koimburi has been charged with forging academic certificates dating back to 1994.

The legislator was arrested yesterday and presented at the Kiambu Law Courts, where he faces six counts of forging academic certificates and an additional charge for failing to attend court on multiple occasions.

According to the charge sheet, the first count accuses him of forging a Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC) certificate between November and December 1994 to obtain a Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE).

He is also accused of forging a certificate of participation in the East African Universities Accession Project from the Jomo Kenyatta University of Technology (JKUAT) between September 2011 and April 2012.

Furthermore, he allegedly secured a forged certificate from the School of Human Resource Development at JKUAT.

Koimburi is also charged with “knowingly and fraudulently” forging the KCSE certificate from KNEC, with this misconduct reported to the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission on March 8, 2021.

He was apprehended outside his home yesterday shortly after making remarks that the government spent approximately Ksh. 13 billion campaigning for Raila Odinga in the African Union Commission (AUC) elections, which Odinga ultimately lost.

His lawyer, Ndegwa Njiru, contended that the MP’s arrest was related to his comments on the AUC elections.

He pleaded not guilty to all charges and was released on Ksh20o,000 cash bail.
