Early Childhood Development and Education (ECDE) teachers in Baringo have a reason to smile after the county announced plans to hire the teachers on permanent and pensionable terms.
Education Executive, Rev. Simon Kiuta, says the county had set aside enough funds in the 2024/2025 budget to implement the programme.
Addressing the press, he noted that 1,083 out of 1,589 teachers below the age of 50 years will be confirmed on permanent and pensionable terms.
“We have 1,083 teachers who are trained and are below the age of 50. Those ones are going to be confirmed on permanent and pensionable terms,” he said.
According to him, the 329 trained ECDE teachers aged above 50 years will have their contracts renewed depending on their age.
Rev. Kiuta observed that the county has 177 untrained teachers, whom he said will have their contracts renewed for one year as they upgrade their careers.
“We also have 177 untrained teachers. This group is going to be given a 1-year contract and will be required to upgrade themselves within that period,” he said.
