Jaramogi Oginga Odinga University of Science and Technology (JOOUST) has disputed reports from The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) that 200 unqualified students graduated from the university on October 18, 2024 after giving bribes.
In a statement, the university Vice Chancellor Prof Emily Achieng’ Akuno stated that the said 200 students were in the preliminary graduation list but were later removed from final graduation list.
“Their names were expunged from the final graduation list, and the university constituted a team to conduct thorough audit for all graduands before issuing any certificate,” she said.
She noted that the university has stringent internal controls, including a robust whistle blowing policy that brought to light the issue leading to expunging of the names from the list.

“EACC has come on board and will expedite and instill additional rigour to the process before the certificates are finally issued to deserving students,” she said.
She further said, on the issue of alleged fraud in the university, that the matter is currently in court and the university will not be able to comment since it will prejudice legal proceedings.
On matter of land occupied by Bondo Teachers Training College, the university VC stated that the title for the land is under custody of JOOUST.
The university will fully cooperate with relevant investigative authorities to ensure the matters raised are addressed.
