Unemployed teachers have been challenged to consider self-employment in related fields instead of waiting to be hired by the government.
Migori Governor Dr. Ochilo Ayacko said that the government cannot be able to employ all graduated teachers at once, urging them to use the knowledge and skills acquired in their programmes to become self-reliant.
“The skills you have gained are efficient to take you places, instead of competing with hundreds of applicants in the job market,” he said.
Dr. Ayacko was speaking during the 94th graduation ceremony at Kamagambo Adventist Teachers’ Training College (TTC) where 107 teachers graduated.
He asked the TTC’s administration to diversify their courses to increase enrolment and sustain the institution.
The governor reaffirmed commitment by both national and county governments to advance education at all levels.
He pledged to ensure quality education through enhancement of infrastructure, strengthening human resource capacity and provision of academic support to ensure quality education in the country.
