Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) and the ICT Authority have renewed intent to synergize their respective capabilities and jointly contribute to Kenya’s digital transformation agenda.
The two institutions have a long-standing partnership that has enabled them to successfully deliver signature government projects in the ICT space and beyond.
Key among the collaborations include the successful implementation of the Digital Literacy Program, which saw JKUAT assemble and deploy over 350,000 devices in more than 7,000 public primary schools across 21 counties.
The university has also collaborated with ICT Authority on digital skills training initiatives.
JKUAT Vice Chancellor (VC) Prof Victoria Ngumi noted that the university had honed several innovations and technical capacities that could be tapped to deliver Kenya’s development aspirations in key sectors such as manufacturing, digital connectivity, agriculture, engineering and healthcare.
Prof Ngumi spoke when she paid a courtesy call on the ICT Authority CEO Stanley Kamanguya.
“We have been in the forefront in promoting and nurturing innovations and technical capacities which we believe will play a pivotal role in the digital transformation of our country,” she said.
The VC, who was accompanied by the management of the JKUAT Industrial Park, added that the university had a proven track record in assembly of affordable digital devices.
Kamanguya noted that the government has lined up a number of projects aimed at closing the digital connectivity gap while hoisting economic productivity for Kenya.
He expressed confidence in the joint capacity of the authority and JKUAT to support the actualization of the projects.
During the meeting, ICT Authority CEO extended an invitation to JKUAT to participate in the Connected Africa Summit event, which will bring together 5,000 delegates, including leaders, investors and businesses, to harness potential of digital economy towards delivering national, regional and global development programmes.
