ICT PS urges youth to embrace digital economy for livelihood

Principal Secretary (PS)  for Information Communication Technology (ICT) and Digital Economy Eng  John Tanui has urged youth  in  institutions to embrace the digital economy.

Speaking at the sidelines of Baringo Business and Digital Innovation Summit, said there is a galore of untapped avenues that youth should utilize to gain income.

He said learners in already established digital hubs in the country have been enabled to take advantage to advance, learn and access opportunities in the digital space.

While underscoring efforts of renowned content creators, the PS reiterated that his ministry was engaging with Kenya National Chamber of Commerce and Industries (KNCCI) to engage partners abroad to allow youth owning digital platforms connect and access openings.

“The ICT ministry is engaging partners from countries like Malaysia and building partnerships from United Nations hub dubbed DigiGen. Youth and learners from institutions should join new platforms to acquaint themselves with new trends in fast changing technological world to generate  income,’’ said Tanui.

He lauded KNCCI President Erick Ruto for the crucial role of supporting the expo alongside six Technical and Vocational Educational Training (TVETs) in the county.

Head of Presidential Special Projects and Creative Economy Dennis Itumbi said the Baringo summit offers opportunity for content creators to connect dreams to opportunities and turning ideas into form.

Baringo Governor Benjamin Cheboi in his speech noted that the expo offers Baringo County a chance to reposition for the fourth industrial revolution defined by internet connectivity.
