How Kisii and Nyamira schools fared in 2024 KCSE exams

Just a day after the release of the 2024 KCSE examinations results, it has emerged that extra county and county schools in both Kisii and Nyamira counties have outshone the known academic giants in Gusii Nyanza.

Top on the list is Riokindo Boys School that posted a mean score of 9.622 up from 6.7 in 2023.

Daniel Marube Orina carried the school’s success flag by posting grade A plain.

According to the school’s Chief Principal, Gerald Orina, the institution presented a total of 756 candidates in the examinations out of which 753 gained direct entry to university with one candidate scoring grade A (plain) while 74 others scored A-.

There were 176 and 401 candidates who score graded B+ plus and B plain respectively as 101 others scored B- minus while two got C+ plus with only one candidate getting C plain as the last grade in the school.

The Principal attributed the good performance to teamwork that was enhanced by determined teachers, hardworking candidates and co-operation from parents.

“We thank God for the impressive results which will motivate us to push further and reach where we want to be,” he said.

Cardinal Otunga Mosocho High tied with Nyabururu Girls National School at 8.564 and 8.564 as the neighbouring institution, Kereri Girls recorded a mean score of 7.9 with 706 candidates getting direct entry grades to university out of 809 who sat their KCSE last year.

Best candidate

Kereri Girls Senior Principal, Tabitha Mogonchi revealed that her best candidate scored A minus while the last had D plain.

There were 82 candidates with B+ 198 B, 229 B- and 196 in C+.

More than 190 candidates scored grade C+ as 78 others got C plain and 20 scored grade C-.

Kisii National School Senior Principal Fred Mogaka thanked God for the good results.

“Glory be to God because it is His will which is done where He wills to place us,” he said.

The Principal said he expected a higher mean score than 8.581 that the school posted with 24 candidates scoring A plain, 91 A-, 127 scored B+, 111 in B- (minus) and 94 C+. There were 64 and 29 candidates who scored C and C- respectively but one candidate got grade D.

Other institutions that posted impressive results from the region include Orogare from Nyamache Sub-county, Magena Girls and St Edward Nyabioto of Kenyenya Sub-county, which had a mean score of 8.5, 8.1 and 7.8.

Shining schools

Nyambaria and Sironga National schools from Nyamira were on the list of shining schools from the region as Nyansiongo Boys posted a mean of 8.8 while the ambitious Kebirigo posted 8.4 with Nyaikuro having a mean score of 8.3.

Kebirigo School Chief Principal Clement Nyangacha said it took consistent team building to achieve the good results.

“We took time in teamwork, determination and fear of God in everything we did to reach here,” he said.

The Principal asked the candidates to look forward and aim to achieve more than the current result by facing the future with optimism.

Other schools from Nyamira that showed improved performance in examinations include Nyandocheibre and Omonayo.
