Homa Bay Governor lauds Safaricom for Ksh40 million school project

Homa Bay County Governor Gladys Wanga has lauded both the M-Pesa Foundation and Safaricom Foundation for sponsoring the construction of modern infrastructure at Ober Primary School costing Ksh40 million.

Wanga said that the project shows her commitment to fully support the growth of Early Childhood Development and Education (ECDE) because it is the foundation of all levels of education.

She was speaking at the school in Kasipul Kabondo constituency during an inspection of the ongoing construction on Monday.

”As a mother, I know the strength that lies behind whoever is given proper parental love during their formative years; that is why I encourage consolidated efforts to boost early childhood education,” she said, assuring residents of the government’s effort to partner with the private sector and individual groups to better education in the region.

Safaricom Foundation Chairman Joseph Ogutu said that the huge project entails constructing modern classroom in the ECDE, primary and JSS sections, as well as computer laboratories, ablution block and latrines, modern kitchen and a new gate.

“We cherish corporate responsibility as the best way of giving back to society and best entrance to this important venture is through the support of education development,” he said.

The chairman said that the project will take about seven months to reach completion, projecting that it will be complete by June next year.

Area MP Dr Eve Obara who spoke to Education News at a different forum in Oyugis town, expressed satisfaction at the cordial working relationship existing between the two governments.

“We agreed to work as a team as we programmed development together to avoid duplication,” she said.
