Highlights of 2024 KCSE results as 1693 students attain grade A

A total of 1,693 candidates attained grade A in 2024 KCSE. Releasing the results today at Mitihani house in Nairobi, Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba said the number is higher compared to 1,216 recorded in 2023.

The CS said candidates who got a minimum university entry of C plus and above are 246,391 representing 25.53 per cent. This is an improvement from last year which had 201,133 candidates.

Some 962,512 candidates sat for the KCSE 2024, 480,310 male and 482,202 female, marking the first time female candidates outnumbered males.

1,693 had As, 7,743 (A-) B+ (19,150) B (43,120), B- (75,347) C+ (99,338),  C (111,717),  C- (118,781 ) D+ (128,885), D (153,334) , D- (151,487) and 48,333 attained grade E.

The CS said the improved performance of the candidates is due to change of marking criteria.

In 2023, out of the 899,453 candidates who sat the 2023 KCSE Examination, 450,554 were male, while 448,899 were female, representing 50.09 per cent and 49.91 with 1,261 candidates scoring a mean grade of A in the 2023 KCSE exams.

Some 7,254 candidates managed to A- while 18,078 students got B+ and some 36, 728 candidates got a B plain, B-, 78,343 others got C+, 92, 612 students have C plain, while 107,471 candidates scored C-.

Grade D+ had 125006, some 155, 276 scored a D plain, while 165, 861 got a D minus and some 28, 174 students scored an E in 2023 KCSE examination.
