The High Court has ordered TSC and the parties involved in the internship engagement of Junior Secondary School (JSS) teachers to honour the terms of the existing contract until a petition before the Court is determined.
Justice Byram Ongaya of the Employment and Labour Relations Court determined that the main petition will be heard and determined based on the application dated November 29, 2023.
The contract in question was given to JSS teacher interns who were posted to different schools across the country.
The contract states that the internship is a non-renewable programme lasting 11 months from February 2023 to December 31, 2023.
The Forum for Good Governance and Human Rights has filed a suit protesting the deployment of trained and qualified teachers as interns in public schools.
The Forum claims that the TSC recruited and deployed two sets of teachers to the public JSS, one being permanent employees with pensionable terms and the other being interns.
