Head teacher in murder case freed on insufficient evidence

Murder suspects Jean Ogol Juma, a primary school head teacher, and her co-accused Henry Opiyo will not face charges against the crime after investigators failed to generate sufficient evidence linking them to the murder of Erick Marwara.

The duo, who were arrested on August 11,  2024 over the suspicious death of Marwara, have been out on cash bail after Bondo Criminal Investigation Officer (CIO) made a miscellaneous application on August 12 to be granted more time to conclude investigations before preferring charges.

The suspects, who were arraigned before Bondo Chief Magistrate Douglas Ogoti, got reprieve after the Office of the Director of Public Prosecution (ODPP) informed the Court that the CIO will not proceed with the case.

The ODPP further explained that the accused will instead be used as State witnesses in the murder case, whose suspects are still at large.

Magistrate Ogoti ordered that the cash bail of Ksh300,000 each be refunded to the duo after their lawyer, Dola Indidi, prayed for the same.

Ogol and Opiyo were arrested after the body of Erick Marwara was found dangling on a rope at Ogol’s house, who according to a police report, was her lover. Preliminary reports from police indicated that Marwara was murdered and had not committed suicide because of visible injuries on his body.
