Grade 9 classes will be completed in time for January transition, PS reassures Kenyans

Basic Education Principal Secretary (PS) Belio Kipsang’ has assured Kenyans that the government is on course to finish the construction of CBC Grade 9 classrooms in time for January transition.

Speaking early today outside Meru County Commissioner’s office while supervising the opening of KCSE examination container, Kipsang’ said the government has already constructed 3,500 classrooms in phase one while another 7,500 are between 40% and 90% complete in phase two, which will be done by December 15 to bring the total to 11,000.

 

 

Kipsang’ graces the opening of the KCSE examination container and distribution of today’s papers in Meru. He said Grade 9 classrooms will be ready for the January transition, asking parents not to panic. “By 15th December this year 2024, let all Kenyans be assured that 11,000 Grade 9 classrooms will be completely constructed,” he assured.

The PS said MPs were given conditional grants of Ksh3.4 billion through the NGCDF to make a total kitty of Ksh6.8 billion, which is supposed to do additional 7,000 classrooms to bring the total to 18,000 classrooms.

Kipsang said the national government has also received Ksh2 billion to be used to do another 2,000 classrooms, assuring parents that there was no need to worry as all plans are on schedule.

On the ongoing KCSE examinations, the PS said it was very impressive that so far there are not many cases of malpractice and assured Kenyans that the government will deliver credible results.

“Let me say that, so far, so good. We have very minimal cases of malpractice compared with other years. I commend the examination managers and security officers for their good work,” he observed.
