A Grade 3 school girl has been hospitalized and is in critical condition after being injured in a riot in Kisii town.
According to her mother, Judy, the minor was returning to their Joo Estate home when she found herself in a violent stampede by protesting youth outside the Kisii county Woman Representative’s office.
She added that while trying to escape for safety during the Tuesday chaos, her daughter found herself in a ditch with severe injuries.
“She was wounded on the head and has a swollen arm and knee,” she said, while at a private hospital in Kisii town.
The incident occurred after irate residents stormed Woman Rep Doris Aburi’s office over claims of corruption and mismanagement of National Government Affirmative Fund (NGAAF) money allocated for various projects in the county.
The protestors, armed with placards and crude weapons, broke the fence gaining entry into her compound where they vented their anger by vandalizing property.
They accused her of squandering Ksh19. 7 million meant for community programmes under NGAAF.
“She has been going around the county lying that she is funding the youth to join Polytechnics but ends up pocketing the money,” alleged Bonny Bosire, one of the protesters.
The rampage was brought to a close after Police lobbed teargas to disperse them and restore order.
Kisii Central Deputy County Commissioner (DCC) Maina Ngugi asked the youth to employ dialogue whenever they felt aggrieved instead of taking the law into their hands.
