The head teacher of Ndhiwa Hospital Primary school in Homabay has called on the government to finish constructing two incomplete classrooms after strong winds blew off classroom roofs during the short holiday.
The destruction of the classroom building which accommodated over 350 learners from Grades 1 to 5 has forced affected pupils to study under the sun for the third day due to lack of funds to repair the classrooms.
Jefferson Onguti the head teacher noted that the incident had occurred as the Standard 8 candidates are approaching their national examination and urged for speedy intervention before then.
“There is need for quick intervention to enable the affected pupils to resume normal learning. We are teaching them under the direct sun and this will affect the school’s performance,” Onguti said.
The school is said to accommodate 13 teachers and 570 pupils who learn in eight classrooms. The population is difficult to handle due to poor infrastructure and insufficient facilities in the school.
Onguti expressed worry that the situation may persist for weeks because they still do not know when the issue is going to be solved.
He urged the government and well-wishers to help them finish constructing the two classes which were started by the Ministry of Education (MoE) to enable pupils to learn without distractions.
