The government has released Ksh3.32 billion to support university students.
First and second-year students will benefit from this funding, which is disbursed by the Higher Education Loans Board (HELB).
Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba announced that the funds were fully disbursed by January 31 for the 2024/2025 academic year.
Each student will receive between Ksh40,000 and Ksh60,000.

“These disbursements are part of the funds appropriated in July 2024 within the current budget framework,” Ogamba noted.
This announcement comes after protests from University of Nairobi (UoN) students at HELB offices.
They demanded timely loan disbursements. Meanwhile, Kenyatta University students blocked a section of Thika Road for the same reason.
Many students expressed that the delays have made it hard to cover essential academic and personal expenses.
