Govt partners World Bank to build border school as peace initiative in North Rift

The government in liaison with the World Bank is establishing a school along the restive Turkana-West Pokot border at a place called Lami Nyeusi.

Sangak Primary School in Pokot Central, which will comfortably accommodate 800 learners, is a prime initiative of the government and would act as a beacon of hope for lasting peace as it opens doors in 2025.

Speaking during a routine inspection of the building, West Pokot Governor Simon Kachapin thanked the locals for embracing the project and expressed a strong belief that the school will address hostilities that have been in existence since time immemorial.

He observed that the area has been experiencing an alarming drop-out rate due to insecurity, child labour and hostilities between the neighbours, which will be a thing of the past once the school is operational.

Partners in the project are World Bank, Kenya National Highways Authority, and the County Government of West Pokot.
