Government Spokesperson Isaac Mwaura has affirmed that the government is fully committed to support the victims of the fire incident at Hillside Private mixed primary school Endarasha , their families, as well as the broader school community.
In a press release made today, Mwaura said that the government is seeking to make quick interventions aimed at providing the necessary support.
“We are working closely with all relevant agencies, including the Ministry of Health, the Ministry of Education, the Red Cross, and other key stakeholders to provide the necessary support,” he said.
A number of interventions made by the government highlighted by Mwaura include; delivery of 50 bags of rice, and another 50 bags of beans via special programme, dispatching 100 mattresses and 100 blankets by today 1.00 pm.
Subsequently, the Ministry of Health in collaboration with Nyeri County Government Health Department are on-site assessing medical needs as Pankaj Foundation already donated 50 first aid kits which will be sent to the site today via ODP. The MP Shah Hospital also is sending medical consumables.

Mwaura revealed that the Kenya Red Cross is also providing counseling services to victims and families as well as offering additional tents, blankets, and medical supplies.
He added that the government will be providing more information as soon as it becomes available.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with the families, students and staff affected by this tragic incident,” he said.
The fire incident, that broke out last night, claimed the lives of 17 learners and left 14 students with significant injuries. They are currently at Mathari Mission Hospital and Nyeri County Referral Hospital for urgent medical care.
