The government has been asked to engage in meaningful dialogue with Kisii University dons to end the ongoing strike for the sake of the students.
Masige East Ward MCA Michael Motume said that if the strike continues, insecurity will be heightened as already students are roaming the streets of Kisii town day and night.
Speaking earlier today in his Ward during the burial of Sokoro Nyabate, Motume said most of the students who come from far were stranded in homes around the university for lack of transport back home.
He was supported by former Bosamaro Ward MCA Beautah Omanga who said that the strike had caused students to move from the campus to the town to seek menial jobs like washing dishes in the hotels for their upkeep.

“Let the government look into this matter and solve it once for all,” Omanga said.
The leaders’ concerns come shortly after Kisii University students vowed to boycott examinations scheduled for next month unless the dons call off the strike.
Led by Kennedy Omwenga, the students asked the university authorities to postpone the examinations until further notice.
“Even if the dons call off the strike we will not sit the examinations because we have not been taught enough,” Omwenga said.
