Kisumu Governor Anyang Nyong’o has enumerated the gains so far made by his administration in the advancement of education within the county.
During his State of The County address in Kisumu, Governor Nyong’o said his regime has invested heavily in the Department of Education, Technical Training, Innovation and Social Services.
This key Department, he said, is mandated to provide and coordinate quality foundational education, technical training, and education and innovation within Kisumu County.
The department, Nyong’o further said, is also responsible for providing and managing library and county social halls services as well as coordinating social services including People with Disabilities (PWDs) affairs.
The governor said ECD remains a top priority in development agenda.
Currently, he said, they have 653 Public Pre-Primary centres out of which 616 are attached to the primary schools while 37 are stand-alone facilities. We have 815 Private Pre-Primary Centers.
He said the Public ECDE Centers currently have 43,148 learners out of which, 21,851 are boys while 21,297 are girls.
The Private ECDE Centers’ current enrolment stands at 43,223 learners.
‘We have 696 ECDE teachers, out of which 55 are male and 641 are female teachers. The department is in the process of employing 100 more teachers.’ He said.
In the Financial Year 2023/2024, Nyong’o said, the department constructed 31 ECDE classrooms across the county, providing a safe, conducive and dignified learning environment for children across the county.

In addition, he enumerated, the department through the support of partners like Play Action International, Safaricom, UNICEF, and Chesire Disability has constructed and renovated ECDE Classrooms in the county.
During the period under review,the governor said, the department developed an ECD ACT 2023 which is vital in shaping the foundation of early learning and care for children.
He said it has also provided a structured and enforceable framework for the implementation and regulation of Early Childhood Development Education (ECDE) in Kisumu County.
