The government has announced it will release full capitation of KSh 22,244 up from KSh 17,000 to public secondary schools
Ministry of Education (MoE) Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu attributed the latest move to economic stability saying that they had scaled down to KSh 17,000 as a result of harsh economic conditions in the country.

Therefore, the CS said that with the Country’s economic status taking shape, the MoE will disburse the recommended capitation to schools.
In 2023, MoE grappled with a shortfall of KSh22 billion disbursing 68 per cent of the capitation a learner.

The CS spoke during Stakeholders Forum on the ‘Draft Sessional Paper and Bills to Implement the Recommendations of the Working Party’ at the Kenya Institute of Special Education.
In December 2023, Secondary school heads asked Members of Parliamnt (MPs) to compel the State to release full capitation for students in the current financial year.
