Yesterday, the International WeLoveU Foundation chairperson, Zahng Gil-jah, visited Mathare North Primary School in Nairobi to celebrate the completion of renovations following major flood damage.
The floods, caused by El Nino rains in May last year, severely impacted the school, destroying classrooms, furniture, and educational materials.
In response, WeLoveU repainted 27 classrooms, replaced damaged desks, and provided new textbooks to ensure students continue their education in a clean, safe environment.
Through its 26th New Life Family Walkathon in South Korea, the foundation raised 300 million KRW (approximately $225,000 USD) to aid countries like Kenya, Mozambique, Uganda, and Ecuador.
The foundation continues its global welfare work, addressing poverty, education, healthcare, and environmental conservation, touching lives across various countries.

A WeLoveU representative said, “The El Niño-induced floods in May 2023 caused severe damage. We decided to step in and improve the learning environment at Mathare North Primary School, one of Nairobi’s most affected areas so that students can study in clean and safe classrooms.”
The donation ceremony was attended by 1,100 people, including students, teachers, and community members.
Head Teacher Boniface Matinda was grateful for the support saying, “I thank Chairwoman Zahng Gil-jah. Now, our school looks beautiful because of her. Last year, we lost many things, even hope, to the floods. But now, we have hope again.”
Deputy head teacher Mwangi Jacinta added, “Some classes, like Grade 4, could not learn properly due to the flood-damaged books. Now, every learner has a textbook, and we expect their performance to improve significantly. Thank you so much.”
Maurice Wafula, a 23-year-old WeLoveU volunteer, shared his joy: “I am so happy to help students pursue their dreams freely in a clean and safe environment.”
As an NGO associated with the United Nations Department of Global Communications (UN DGC), WeLoveU operates under the slogan “Mother’s Love to the Whole World!” For nearly 30 years, the organization has carried out welfare activities in over 50 countries, addressing poverty, hunger, health, education, environmental conservation, and disaster relief.
