The Matuu KMTC Campus in the Yatta Sub-county of Machakos County will soon open its doors to students pursuing medical courses.
Ronald Wasike, the academic registrar at KMTC, disclosed this after visiting the institution on Monday, February 24 accompanied by area MP Robert Basil.
Wasike noted that the institution will be operational by March this year. He said that although KUCCPS is placing students, lobbying will be done locally to ensure that some of the students are placed in the institution.
“The students will be applying through KUCCPS, but we shall mobilize students locally to have as many students from Yata, Machakos, and within the region use. Those students can be posted to the KMTC Yata and other KMTC campuses,” said Wasike.

“Remember, KMTC is a national institution; therefore, we value national cohesion and integration. So, we may recruit more students from this place but not post all of them here. We will post them to some other campuses, and we shall also post students from different counties to this campus, just the way we have always done,” he added.
The institution, which started in 2019, had been stalled, and it took current lawmaker Robert Basil to revive it.
Basil ensured the bushes were cleared, power restored, and washrooms renovated to improve the institution’s infrastructure and ensure it continues to offer high-quality education and service to students and staff.
“All the work has been done; it’s the final touch to ensure the institution will run smoothly. I urge the county government to collaborate with the national government to facilitate the school’s running,” said Basil.
“The county needs to buy not less than 200 beds and provide doctors, teachers and x-ray machines; I have done my job as the area MP. I will purchase seats and computers soon, “he added.
