Ahead of school reopening tomorrow, the State through the Ministry of Education (MoE) has disbursed KSh48.4 billion capitation funds for public primary and secondary schools.
Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba said the released amount represents 50 per cent of the total capitation for academic year 2025.
Primary schools will get KSh4.1 billion while KSh28.9 billion has been disbursed to Day Secondary schools.
Day Junior Secondary schools will receive KSh15.3 billion.
The early release of the capitation is to ensure smooth running of the schools. In the past, schools grappled with financial challenges due to delayed release of the funds.
The money will ensure that public schools will be able to keep learners in school.

The CS said, “We are working with the National Treasury for the release of the exchequer, to facilitate timely disbursement.”
He added that the government will release 30 per cent of the capitation in Term Two and remaining 20 per cent in Third Term.
Ogamba added that construction of 16,000 classrooms is at 93 per cent to facilitate seamless transition of learners to Grade 9 transition who are transiting to Junior secondary schools.
He further asked school heads to construct temporary structures to accommodate learners where classrooms have not been completed.
Heads of schools have been also asked to merge streams to create space for the new learners in Grade 9.
Ogamba also added that 9.9 million textbooks have been dispatched to all schools across the country.
Ogamba said, “The distribution is expected to be completed by Monday, January 6, 2025.”
