Early Childhood Development Education (ECDE) teachers in Elgeyo Marakwet are set to receive enhanced salaries following implementation of second phase of the salary increment.
The devolved unit says the move is aimed at boosting the morale of the teachers in line with the county’s commitment of improving tutors’ welfare.
County Governor wisely Rotich underscored the role played by the ECDE teachers in shaping education foundation saying motivated teaching workforce is key in achieving it.
“Phase two of salary increment for our ECDE teachers will be implemented this month while we continue to also improve infrastructure. We appreciate our ECDE teachers for their commitment and hardwork towards ensuring quality education for our children,” said the county boss.

Speaking in Iten during the launch of digital learning training for ECDE teachers, the governor said he was impressed by the strides made in rolling out digital learning programme across ECDE centres in the county.
He termed the move timely saying learners from the county will be competing with their peers globally by embracing digital learning.

“We have started the journey to make our children to compete with the globe through digital learning where we make learning interesting by using digital devices to dispense knowledge to our future generation,” he said.
Some 281 ECDE teachers drawn from all the 20 wards were equipped with digital knowledge and pedagogy and thereafter will be given gadgets loaded with content.
The governor who is the current chairperson ICT Ccommittee at the Council of Governors said the remaining 247 schools will have the programme rolled out in July 2025.
The training was sponsored by global EIDU digital learning programme. The regional Manager at EIDU Lilian Omondi said the organization is committed in advancing digital learning in partnership with governments to provide cost effective and scalable digital learning solutions in learning institutions.
