One hundred sixty chairs and tables have been donated to Early Childhood Development Education (ECDE) centres at Kanani, Kwa Mang’eli, and Kasuitu primary schools in Athi River, Machakos County.

Speaking at Kanani Primary School, Athir River MCA Jeremiah Kaloi, during the construction of the infrastructure for the centres, emphasised that education is the key to a better future and should not be taken for granted.

“This programme has been running since last year, and the governor has an ambitious plan to ensure our children learn in a conducive environment,he said.

“It is unfortunate that some parents still keep their children at home, loitering around instead of sending them to school,Kaloi said.

He also highlighted the county’s school feeding programme, saying it has significantly improved children’s nutrition by providing food and milk.

“As a parent, you are responsible for ensuring your child gets an education. In Athi River alone, we have over 10 ECDE schools with teachers in place, so there is no reason for any child to miss out,he added.

Parents in Athi River have been urged to ensure that all children of school-going age are enrolled in the learning institutions.

He assured residents that under Governor Wavinya Ndeti, the Machakos County Government remains committed to supporting education.
