Busia County Government has so far constructed a  total of 275 Early Childhood Development Education (ECDE) centres in all 35 administrative wards.

According to the report seen by Education News on Tuesday January 28, 2025, all ECDE classrooms have also been issued with chairs, teaching and learning materials.

In an effort to ensure availability of adequate teachers, the county government, through the county public service board, has employed a total of 450 teachers on Permanent and Pensionable terms, with 547 others on contract.

The report further stated that all centres have operational boards of management.

In an effort to avoid overcrowding in the schools, the county has put effective strategies in place that would ensure in future each ECDE centre has two classrooms, and also make ECDE education free and compulsory for all learners.

The county administration is currently rolling feeding programmes in all the centres.

“ECDE centres managed by the county government of Busia are affordable, unlike private ones that charge high fees which many parents cannot afford owing to the high cost of living,” said a parent who sought anonymity.
