Form 3 student nursing gunshot wounds in KNH after bandit attack in Meru

Officers conducting security operations in insecurity prone areas. A Form 3 student was shot by bandits in Meru and is recuperating at KNH.

A Form 3 student is admitted at Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH) nursing gunshot wounds following a bandit attack in Buuri Constituency in Meru County.

The student sustained head injuries after about 15 cattle rustlers raided Karimba and Maritati areas and took off with several livestock after shooting at residents.

Buuri West Assistant County Commissioner Winnie Macharia and Kisima Ward MCA Patrick Mutuma both said only the student sustained gunshot wounds because the bandits mainly fired in the air to scare away the residents.

The duo said the bandits raided the area at around 8pm and managed to escape with several cows, goats and sheep after scaring away the locals.

“One young man who is a Form 3 student was left nursing gunshot wounds after bandits raided Karimba and Maritati areas, Kisima Ward in Buuri Constituency, Meru County, last night. They escaped with several livestock which were taken through Ngarendare Forest by bandits.

The student was rushed to Kenyatta National Hospital where he is responding positively to treatment,” said Macharia.

The MCA said the father of the student rushed him to a nearby health centre where he received first aid treatment before being transferred to KNH.

He called on the government and well-wishers to financially support the boy to enable him to meet the medical expenses.

Macharia said security officers pursued the bandits and managed to recover several stolen livestock, noting the rescue operation continues.
