In a bid to enhance disaster management capabilities following several fire incidents in Central Kenya schools, a firefighting seminar has been held in Tharaka Nithi for rescue training.

The two-week training conducted by volunteer trainers from Bedfordshire Fire and Rescue, Birmingham Fire and Rescue, and the South Central Ambulance Service (UK) is aimed at equipping firefighters with modern skills for more effective community safety and rescue operations.

The comprehensive programme supported by the UK government attracted participants from various counties, including Nyeri, Tharaka Nithi, Wajir and Marsabit, as well as representatives of Meru, Tharaka, and Chuka universities.

Nyeri County Executive Committee Member (CECM) for Gender, Youth, Sports and Social Services Esther Ndung’u the training covered critical areas such as fire prevention, rope rescue techniques, ladder operations in confined spaces, paramedic skills, and community safety awareness.
