The school feeding programme has increased enrollment in Nakuru Early Childhood Development Education (ECDE) centres. Zipporah Ngugi, Nakuru County Executive Committee Member for Education, said that the programme has raised learner enrollment from 58,000 to over 64000 in 11 sub-counties across Nakuru County.
Speaking from her office in Nakuru City, Ngugi urged parents to continue enrolling their children in public ECDE programmes to ensure they receive foundational education.
“The County Government of Nakuru has initiated the school feeding program in our ECDE centres as a strategy to enable more children to access ECDE education without any barriers,” said Ngugi.

She also mentioned that the County Government of Nakuru has hired additional ECDE teachers to be assigned to the ECDE centres.
“The County Public Service Board is conducting recruitment for our ECDE teachers, who will be placed in the ECDE centres across 11 sub-counties in Nakuru County,” Ngugi noted.
Ngugi further added that the Nakuru County Department of Education has partnered with an organization called EIDU to distribute over 2,400 digital gadgets to all ECDE centres to equip learners with ICT skills.
“The gadgets are very instrumental for both learners and teachers, who use them daily during the learning process,” Ngugi said.
“We are equipping our learners with ICT skills, so they become proficient at a young age,” she continued.
The CECM also mentioned that learning materials, such as books, have been distributed to all ECDE centres to aid learners.
