Kenya National Union of Post Primary education Teachers (KUPPET) has expressed great concern about insecurity in Kisii County after a teacher died under mysterious circumstances.
Addressing mourners in Bonchari Constituency during the burial of Duke Nyabaro, Kisii Branch KUPPET Executive Secretary Joseph Abincha feared for the lives of teachers unless the situation is brought under control.
“We are living in a state of fear because there is insecurity everywhere in the region and we have security organs who should protect the common mwananchi and their property,” he said.
The burial was attended by leaders from the region led by Bonchari MP Dr Charles Onchoke who called for quick investigation and arrest of the killers of the late teacher.
The body of the deceased was found hanging from a market kiosk in Getembe estate near Kisii town.
Postmortem reports indicated that he died from strangulation. Until his death, Nyabaro was a secondary school teacher in Migori and a consistent political blogger.
Police said that no arrest had been made in connection with the suspected murder but confirmed that thorough investigations were on going, appealing to the public to volunteer information that may lead to the arrest of the killers.
