The Equip Africa Institute held its third graduation ceremony, celebrating 219 graduates from various courses. The new programs introduced show the institution’s focus on providing skills that match job market needs.
Professor Evans Kerosi, the Executive Director, mentioned that the new programs include Community Health Nursing, Perioperative Theatre Technology, and training done with the Kenya Maritime Authority.
He also shared plans to introduce a Certificate and Diploma in Public Health to meet the growing demand for practical education. This aims to fill important job market gaps.
Professor Deogratious Jaganyi, the Vice-Chancellor of Mount Kenya University, promised to grow the university’s programs, including those at Equip Africa Institute, to meet industry needs.
“We are offering refresher training in Competency-Based Curriculum programs for graduates who missed such opportunities. Our focus is on hands-on learning,” he said.
Prof. Jaganyi also highlighted that MKU’s recognition by the UK Medical Council shows its dedication to global education standards and helping graduates find career opportunities.
Paul Wanyeki, the Chief Guest and Director at TVETA, said technical education plays a big role in Kenya’s development.
“There are 2,602 TVET institutions offering skills-focused training. We also support recognition of prior learning to promote career growth and lifelong learning,” he stated.
