Engineers Board of Kenya has granted provisional recognition to three engineering programmes at two local universities.

The recognition of the courses now brings the total number of recognized programs to 70, which accounts for over 90% of all engineering programmes in Kenya.

In a statement, EBK chief executive officer Eng Margaret Ogai said EBK’s continued recognition of the engineering programmes carried out in consultation with the Commission of University Education (CUE) demonstrates its commitment to quality engineering education that aligns with the needs of a modern, evolving engineering sector.

“Our target is to ensure that all programmes are fully recognized within the current financial year 2024/2025, reinforcing the quality and relevance of engineering education for future generations of engineers,” said Ogai.

The board held its 196th ordinary board meeting on 7th November 2024 where they  reviewed and approved applications from both locally and internationally trained engineers.

EBK has registered 751 new graduate engineers across various disciplines, the number representing one of the highest total recorded in recent times.

“It can be attributed not only to increased awareness but also recognition of more engineering programmes by the board,” the CEO said.

The board also approved the registration of 2 new professional engineers and 22 consulting engineers in various fields.

The figures indicated that the board is firmly on track to meet its target of registering 10,000 professional engineers by the year 2027.
