President William Ruto has appointed former Senate Speaker Ekwee Ethuro as Chairperson of the Higher Education Loans Board (HELB) for a five-year term commencing September 19, 2023.

The decision was officially announced in a recent gazette notice, marking Ethuro’s return to a pivotal role he previously held.

He initially assumed the position in 2018 following his tenure as the Senate Speaker from 2013 to 2017.

Ethuro’s wealth of experience in Kenyan politics and governance positions him well for the crucial role.

He has promised to ensure that HELB continues to provide accessible and affordable financial support to students pursuing higher education.

The reappointment underscores the President’s confidence in his ability to lead HELB effectively in facilitating educational opportunities for Kenya’s youth.
